Should DC United Leave DC?
It was hard to title this paragraph. "Should
DC United leave DC"?, well they may not have much
of a choice. The stadium is old, food sucks, and the
layout is not optimal for a pure soccer stadium. I can
live with a lot of that. RFK is easy to get to and holds
a lot of nostalgia. It is also nice to go to a stadium
not named after a food or bank.
The down side, DC United hardly gets any
money from concessions and parking. Not to mention,
other big international games are going to other cities
that now have outstanding soccer stadiums. It is only
a matter of time before DC wants to do something else
with the Stadium and kicks DC United out.
I was disappointed to see PG County reject
a stadium plan. I think they were just biased against
soccer. They felt that since it was not as popular they
could deny it. They better not need a sports stadium
ever again because the reasons to justify a sports stadium
were good enough for M&T Bank Stadium and the new
Nats Stadium.
If DC United "Can" leave, "should"
they? I would be very sad to see them move but if they
moved to an all soccer stadium in a place that wanted
soccer I would support it for the love of the game.
